Setting the MIME Type (Content Type) for WBS Charts and PERT Charts

What to do when clicking on a .wbs or .pce file in a Browser displays text instead of a WBS Chart or PERT Chart

If you are trying to click a link to a WBS or PERT chart in your Browser to display a chart but it displays text in the Browser, you need to set the MIME type (also known as the Content Type) for this type of file on your Web Server. Setting the MIME type or Content Type is most likely done by the Administrator of your Web Server. Once this is done, clicking a link to a WBS chart (.wbs file) or PERT chart (.pce file) from your Browser will start the corresponding application on your computer and display a chart.

Your Web Server Administrator should be familiar with setting MIME/Content Types for the type of Web Server you are using (if not, contact us with the type of web server you are using and we will try to determine where this needs to be set on your particular server).

The following information is needed to set the MIME Type or Content Type for WBS chart files:

For the .wbs file extension the MIME or Content Type should be set to application/wbs.chart+xml  

The following information is needed to set the MIME Type or Content Type for PERT chart files:

For the .pce file extension the MIME or Content Type should be set to application/pert.chart+xml

After setting the MIME type, if your browser still does not display the chart, try clearing out the cache, cookies and history of your browser.

Note: You need WBS Chart Pro version 4.6 (or later) or PERT Chart EXPERT version 2.5 (or later) for this to work. If you do not have these versions, go to the Download Page for details on updating your software.
